Another day, yet another political sex scandal. Do we need any more reasons to begin a wholesale cleaning of our political house? How can we expect these people to make conscientious decisions?

Mark Sanford’s admission of his affair on Wednesday prompted differing reactions from different people. Rush Limbaugh, in a rare moment, was nearly speechless upon hearing the announcement.
My cynicism toward all politicians kept me from being shocked by the news. My reaction was one of anger, pure and simple.
In a time when so many critical issues face the nation, and liberals–including their cohorts in the State media–are doing what they can to create the illusion that the conservative movement is dead, this fool follows his sexual urges to Argentina.
Fortunately, few, if any, conservative talk show hosts or fellow politicians made any attempt to beg off this man’s grave offense against his family.
“The bottom line is this,” Sanford said in his admission, “I’ve been unfaithful to my wife. I’ve let down a lot of people.” You bet you have, you pompous twit. You have not only let down your family and friends; you have let down the Republican Party and, worse still, the conservative movement to which you reportedly belonged.
You, like many before you, have gone a long way toward discrediting the idea of stressing character in a candidate. How can anyone complain about the utter lack of character in a Bill Clinton or a Barack Obama when the enemy can simply point to you and say, “Uh, what about your guy?” You must resign your position as governor, and quickly.
In the coming days, the press will actually get off their chairs and do some journalistic work, now that there’s a Republican scandal afoot. One of the things they will bring out is that Sanford supported the impeachment of President Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky debacle. By doing this, these American propagandists will show their utter lack of sophistication.
Clinton was not impeached for having an affair… he was impeached because he lied about it under oath. Sanford has done no such thing, as of yet, so the comparison is completely unfounded. But, at this point, what do we expect from the American versions of Tass and Pravda? Nothing more than their usual Leftist drivel.
Still, Sanford deserves any labels of “hypocrite” that get thrown his way. Is this sort of behavior to be the norm? How many other so-called “family values” candidates have mistresses in other states or countries? Is it too much to ask for our politicians to be consistent where it counts?
Too many of our officials act in their own self-interest, contrary to their oath or the intent of the Constitution. They may say they are working for their constituencies, but behind their “good deeds” is the motivation to be re-elected. They fraternize with special interests, they take money and junkets from lobbyists, and they continue to expand the government’s power in the name of helping Americans.
Deception and selfishness are epidemics in our political culture, both in Washington and, evidently, in our state houses. Friday, the U.S. House will vote on the infamous cap-and-trade bill in the name of saving the environment.
This 1,200-page monstrosity will cost the nation billions, if not trillions, of dollars, and the effects of this bill will directly affect every family in the United States. Or at least those families that aren’t already on the government dole. Barack Obama himself said that the cost of electricity would necessarily skyrocket under the plan.
Why would our government do something like this to its citizenry? These are not intellectually stupid men. Well, most of them aren’t. They must understand what the results of this legislation will be. Yet they are so beholden to the concept of envirofascism and extending their own reach that they will mortgage our already bleak future for the sake of a few windmills. The religious devotion to the environment makes one wonder if these congressman and their supporters are going a little further than just hugging when it comes to trees.
If these men were honest, they would be voting for further exploration and drilling in the short term, since wind power and solar power are still unsustainable and inefficient. However, as they did with the ethanol mandate that has resulted in higher corn prices and, as a result, higher food prices, they will mask their power grab with good intentions. And we know where that road leads.
All I ask is that good men and women–those who love their country, will protect and defend the Constitution, get thrills up their leg when they hear the national anthem, not when they hear the president read from a teleprompter–begin to make themselves available to run for office.
Throughout this land, people have been sickened by the hypocrisy and selfishness of the Washington climate. America needs representatives, regardless of party, who will go to Washington or their state capital looking to uphold the Constitution and return our United States to the principles upon which it was founded. Who will take up this standard and lead? A desperate nation awaits…
